We
wanted to create a new monument for all the
world's generations... but what
form should it take? The mission for the monument
had to be defined. |
|
- Establish
the first international monument that will
glorify history's Olympic victors
from every nation.
- The
monument will serve as the bridge between the
history of the ancient
and modern Olympiads by
listing the names of all victors from the
start of the games in 776 BC through the modern
resurrection
in 1896 and for the next 1,000 years.
- The
names will be listed in the native tongue
of the victor, introducing a global element
to the
project.
- To
erect a centerpiece for the Olympic dream and
foster good will among all
nations.
- A true international monument that will serve
as an icon of peace; where Olympic and Paralympic
victors of any sex, race, nationality and faith
can all coexist in harmony.
- A monument to be the Jerusalem and Mecca of
every athlete, where their sacred pilgrimage
to the Monument can be done in peace through
the philosophy of the sacred Olympic Truce.
- To
establish a tribute that serves as a beacon,
for peace, calling forth the athletes to compete in
the Olympic spirit much the same way like Marcos
and Theron did.

Olympia - The ancient capital of peace and sports! |
|
|
Why Olympia? |
|
- Relationship
between athlete and Olympia is reciprocal
- The
athlete takes the "flame of peace"
from Olympia to guide his efforts during
the games
- Return
of the athletes' names to the
origin creates a relationship between the
birthplace of
the Olympics, the spirit of the athlete
and the nations of the world.
- The
cyclical journey provides no beginning
and no end to the spirit of peace.
